Breath is Life: How Dan Brulé’s Teachings Inspire My Practice

There’s a quiet revolution happening — not in politics or technology, but in something far more intimate: our breath. Few have illuminated this path more clearly than Dan Brulé, a true master of breathwork and the author of the seminal book Just Breathe: Mastering Breathwork for Success in Life, Love, Business, and Beyond.

I first encountered Dan’s teachings as I began deepening my own journey through breathwork, and his words continue to shape the way I facilitate sessions — whether in one-on-one healing work, group events, or virtual experiences with people around the world. This is both a tribute to his wisdom and a brief look at the core ideas from Just Breathe that have become pillars in my own practice.

A Brief Overview of

Just Breathe

Dan Brulé’s Just Breathe is more than a how-to manual — it’s a call to remember what we already carry within us: the power of the breath to regulate, heal, energize, and awaken.

In the book, Brulé weaves together decades of experience in conscious breathing — drawing from his time training Navy SEALs, Olympic athletes, monks, trauma survivors, and everyday people seeking transformation. He introduces the reader to breath awareness, conscious breathing, and what he calls “energy breathing” — all tools for mastering the connection between body, mind, and spirit.

One of the key ideas he emphasizes is that breath is the only autonomic function we can consciously control, and through that control, we gain access to everything from relaxation to resilience, insight to performance. He shares a wide range of techniques — from the Breath of Fire, to box breathing, to circular connected breathing — each with its own purpose, effect, and energetic signature.

Dan also reminds us that breathwork is not about “doing it right” — it’s about showing up, listening, and exploring the incredible intelligence of the body. He says:

“The breath will teach you everything you need to know. Just keep breathing and listen.”
